The Purpose of THE LAW

How would you feel if I told you the law was not meant for you to keep? I know lots of questions and doubts are going through your mind now. You are like; what is she talking about? How could she have said the law was not meant for us to keep? You have every right to ask questions, accept or even reject issues that go contrary to what you know.

But do you know that outside the well known 10 commandments, there are 613 articles of the law also expected of you to keep too if you believe the law was meant for you to keep? Surprised? This 613 articles of the law contains orders such as : do this but don't do that, touch this but don't touch that etc. You can find out for yourself about them as you go through the five books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.

The 10 commandments is just like a summary of the laws and since it's God's own laws, we ought to keep them right? Let me ask you a question, ever since you had the knowledge of the law(10 commandments) and its requirements, have you been able to keep all of them? The righteous demands of the law is that whoever keeps them will live. This means for you to be accepted by God or become righteous, you must have to keep them leaving out none.

Romans 10: 5 says
"For Moses described the righteousness which is of the law, that the man who doeth those things shall live by them"
James 2:10 also says
"Whoever shall keep the WHOLE law and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. For he that said do not commit adultery also said do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law"

Did u see that? The above scriptures are showing you that for you to become righteous through the law, you must keep all of them to the letter. That is to say, if you keep nine leaving out one, you are guilty of breaking the whole law. I ask you again, have you been able to keep the WHOLE law without breaking any?

Since you have seen that the whole demands of the law must be kept for you to become righteous, and you have been trying to keep them but have not been able, it means that you are already condemned to suffer death for the opposite of life, which the law guarantees to give those who keep them, is death. This is a pointer to the fact that you are a condemned sinner in the law likewise every other person because no man has been able to keep all. This God must really be an uncompassionate God, don't you think so? My dear don't conclude yet till you see the sole aim of him giving the law.

WHAT THEN WAS THE PURPOSE OF THE LAW?

Galatians 3:19
"Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by Angels in the hands of a mediator"

Another translation has it thus;

"what then was the purpose of the law? It was added in order to show what wrongdoing is...."(Good news translation).

Romans 3:20 says:

"Therefore, by the deeds of the law shall no man be justified in his sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin"

put in another way,

"For no one is put right in God's sight by doing what the law requires, what the law does is to make people know that they have sinned" (Good news trans.)

You see, the sole aim of the law was for men to know what sin is. It was given that you may know what it is to do wrong. The law therefore defines to men what sin is. It serves as a mirror that allows men see who they really are; "SINNERS". Without the law there wouldn't be anything like sin because you wouldn't have had the consciousness and knowledge of what sin is. This tells you that without the law, you would be sinning without knowing that. Apostle Paul testifies of this when he said:

Romans7:7-8
"Shall we say then that the law itself is sinful? Of course not! But it was the law that made me know what sin is. If the law had not said, do not desire what belongs to someone else, I wouldn't have known such a desire. But by means of that commandment sin found its chance to stir up all kinds of selfish desires in me. Apart from the law sin is a dead thing"(Good News trans.)

Yes, without the law, people would be sinning, acting out those sins in their heart described in my first publication without them knowing they were sinning. God actually knows that humans can never live up to the demands of the law when he gave it out. He just did that for men to know that he is a holy God who beholds no Sin. So before the law was given, the Jews who were sinners claimed that God(who beholds no Sin) was their God. So in order for them to know that they are sinful, he gave them the law and demanded they obeyed them for them to live. God demanding they obeyed the law was not actually saying that for them to obey but that in trying to obey they would find out just like you do now that it was practically impossible to keep and realize that they are sinners thereby having the opportunity of turning to him who alone is able to save them. Do you now understand? I pray you do. This is leading us into another topic extended from today's topic titled TO WHOM WAS THE LAW GIVEN; THE JEWS OR THE GENTILES? I want you to answer this question before the next publication and the question is are you a Jew or a Gentile? See you soon! Love you deeply
